Donald Trump and Alaska's governor have called for a criminal investigation and prosecution following reports that Democratic operatives recruited a candidate with a matching name to confuse voters in a tight Senate race. According to a media investigation, the campaign of Democratic candidate Mary Peltola deliberately sought out a local resident named Dan J. Sullivan from a remote fishing village to run against the incumbent Republican Dan S. Sullivan, aiming to siphon conservative votes.

The covert operation, dubbed a ballot-structuring project, involved undercover trips to remote Alaskan communities to recruit a political novice. While Peltola's campaign and national Democratic committees repeatedly denied involvement, former campaign manager Alyssa Rios confirmed the scheme to reporters, prompting outrage from Republican leaders and the Department of Justice, which filed a federal petition regarding the integrity of the vote.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has been campaigning nationwide, though external Republican strategists warn that his appearances might backload voter turnout risks as midterms approach. Reports indicate that negative media coverage and projections of losing the House majority have left the administration frustrated, as a potential loss in Congress would significantly restrict the White House's agenda for its remaining term.
