Until now, children as young as 12 could ride in open pickup truck beds without seats or seat belts. Following increased traffic congestion, higher speeds on island roads, and a fatal accident in Honolulu earlier this year where a woman was ejected from a truck bed, a new law has been passed to restrict the practice. The bill's sponsor noted: "People fought it tooth and nail."
