Former Partner of Zondacrypto Exchange Founder Arrested in Poland
Polish police have arrested Roman Z., a former partner of the Zondacrypto exchange founder. The money laundering probe has sparked a political clash between Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Karol Nawrocki.

The scandal surrounding the Polish cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto, which previously operated under the name BitBay, is intensifying following the arrest of Roman Z., a former business partner of the exchange's founder.
Arrest and Seizure of Assets
On September 5, officers from Poland's Central Cybercrime Bureau and national police detained Roman Z. as part of an ongoing investigation into the exchange's operations. According to authorities, searches conducted during the arrest led to the seizure of luxury watches and documents directly linked to Zondacrypto's business activities.
This arrest is not an isolated incident. Polish media report that the investigation focuses on severe allegations, including fraud and money laundering. In August, Radoslaw P., the president of the Polish Olympic Committee, was arrested on charges of paid intercession and harming creditors associated with Zondacrypto. Prosecutors have requested a three-month extension of his detention. Authorities have already received thousands of complaints regarding offenses tied to the case.
Political Fallout and Russian Connections
In recent years, Zondacrypto has emerged as one of the most prominent platforms in the Polish cryptocurrency market. However, the current case has transcended financial misconduct to become a major political battleground.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk previously alleged links between individuals associated with Zondacrypto and Russian organized crime, further tying the affair to conservative politicians. Zondacrypto has denied all allegations and, according to prior reports, continues to cooperate with law enforcement.
Polish President Karol Nawrocki has also been drawn into the political crossfire. During legislative battles over cryptocurrency regulation, Nawrocki vetoed a bill designed to regulate the market and align it with European Union standards. Donald Tusk and his allies argued that the veto severely hindered efforts to supervise the crypto market. Conversely, the president's supporters maintained that the legislation was flawed and that regulatory opposition does not imply any connection to the Zondacrypto scandal.
Clash Over Law Enforcement
The latest arrest has reignited the political feud. Following the announcement of the arrest by the Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General, Zbigniew Bogucki, chief of the President's Office, launched a sharp attack on the government.
Zbigniew Bogucki stated:
"The authorities already possessed all the necessary legal tools to combat crimes in the cryptocurrency market without waiting for new legislation. Instead of taking decisive action against crime, the government has chosen to generate political noise."
What began as a criminal investigation into a cryptocurrency exchange has now evolved into one of Poland's most prominent political battlegrounds. While the government frames the investigation and regulatory push as a vital fight against financial crime, the presidential camp accuses the administration of weaponizing the case to target political rivals. The investigation remains ongoing.
