Groom Arrested in Zarzir Over Weapon Possession Ahead of Wedding

A man scheduled to be married this coming weekend was arrested in Zarzir after police discovered a firearm and ammunition in his vehicle. His detention has been extended until Friday, at which point a court will decide whether to extend it further.

The arrest took place during a Northern District police operation in the town of Zarzir, following a shooting incident reported earlier at a residential home. No injuries were reported in the shooting.

At approximately 02:10, officers spotted a suspicious vehicle in one of the town's neighborhoods and signaled the driver to pull over. The driver failed to stop immediately, raising police suspicions. Fearing he might attempt to flee and break through the blockade, officers drew their weapons, and the vehicle came to a halt.

According to police, the driver appeared nervous and suspicious after the car stopped. A search of the vehicle revealed an FN pistol and ammunition placed beside him. The suspect was taken into custody, and his remand was subsequently extended until Friday.

Migdal HaEmek Station Commander, Supt. Eran Mazuz, commented on the timing of the arrest. "Our officers are deployed day and hour across the station's jurisdiction, with an emphasis on Arab communities, to prevent violence and shooting incidents. This event is further proof of our determination to combat crime," he said.

"As for the suspect, he is a well-known individual to us," Mazuz added, "and I can only feel sorry for him that even days before his wedding, he chooses to continue his criminal lifestyle."

On Friday, just 24 hours before the wedding date, a decision is expected on whether the suspect will be released to attend his wedding or whether his detention will be extended, leaving him behind bars through the weekend.
