Yom Kippur in Israel: Two Dead in Traffic Accidents, MDA Treats Thousands
Two people died in traffic accidents and thousands required medical attention as Magen David Adom responded to emergencies across Israel during Yom Kippur.
Two people were killed in separate fatal traffic accidents during Yom Kippur in Israel: a motorcyclist died near Jerusalem after being hit by a car, and a truck driver was killed in northern Israel when his vehicle overturned.
Magen David Adom (MDA) reported that its teams handled a heavy workload during the holiday. Paramedics provided medical treatment to 3,322 people nationwide, with 2,268 evacuated to hospitals. Among them, 368 patients fainted, suffered dehydration, or felt unwell due to the fast.
A total of 299 people were injured while riding bicycles, rollerblades, scooters, and skateboards. Of those, nine were listed in moderate condition and 290 sustained light injuries. Additionally, violence-related incidents across the country left 40 people injured, including a man in his 40s found dead with trauma wounds in Umm al-Fahm, and a 33-year-old man seriously injured in a stabbing in Beersheba.
Traffic accidents nationwide resulted in two fatalities—men aged 45 and 31—along with severe injuries to a 50-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman. Furthermore, MDA emergency crews assisted in transporting 155 women in labor to hospitals.
