Mass Illness Outbreak Hits Israeli Tourists at Seychelles Club Med Resort

Scores of Israeli tourists vacationing at the Club Med resort in the Seychelles have fallen severely ill over the past several days, suffering from high fevers, persistent vomiting, and diarrhea. According to affected vacationers, a WhatsApp group formed by guests currently counts at least 39 individuals experiencing symptoms, ranging from moderate discomfort to debilitating conditions.

"Our entire extended family arrived on Wednesday evening on a direct flight," said S., one of the affected tourists, in an interview. "The first symptoms appeared on Friday night. My brother and father were among the first to fall ill with high fevers, diarrhea, and vomiting — and from that moment on, people began dropping like flies."

Medical Response and Conflicting Claims

By Saturday, the resort's medical clinic was reportedly overflowing with patients presenting identical symptoms. A local physician brought in from the main island administered intravenous fluids to the guests, though tourists disputed claims made by resort management regarding the source of the illness.

"They brought a doctor here from the main island of the Seychelles, he gave us IV infusions and told us we arrived with something from Israel. They were taken by boat for injections, but some people are in such bad shape they cannot even manage a boat ride," S. stated.

While management maintains that only a handful of guests are affected and denies any possibility of food poisoning, the tourists insist the outbreak originated from one of the resort's dining facilities. Guests also reported difficulties in receiving adequate care and basic amenities as their conditions persisted through the holidays.

Official Statement from Club Med

Representatives for Club Med Israel issued a formal response addressing the situation at the resort:

  • Initial medical tests conducted thus far have yielded no findings indicative of a bacterial pathogen.

  • The exact source of the illness remains undetermined, and authorities are examining whether the infection may have originated prior to arrival.

  • Resort medical teams are closely monitoring and accompanying affected guests, providing necessary care and assistance.

Tourists continue to coordinate with their respective insurance providers to secure independent medical evaluations and treatment as the situation develops.
