The head of the Heichal Yitzhak yeshiva, Rabbi Yisrael Landau, was filmed on Saturday evening tearing up an IDF draft notice in front of hundreds of his students during Hakafot Shniot celebrations.

According to public data, the yeshiva received direct state funding of more than 3 million shekels in 2024. As of 2025, the yeshiva has approximately 400 students and maintains a modest kollel comprised mostly of alumni.

Political tension surrounding yeshiva conscription remains high, echoing a similar controversy in June when Rabbi Yosef Aryeh Yazdi hurled harsh verbal attacks against IDF Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir during a demonstration against military enlistment.
