Father of Suspect Arrested in Haifa Murder Investigation of Yana Zikova
The father of the primary suspect in the murder of 43-year-old Yana Zikova in Haifa has been arrested after admitting he was present during the fatal stabbing. Both suspects deny involvement as police seek a 10-day custody extension.
A major development has emerged in the investigation into the murder of 43-year-old Yana Zikova in Haifa. The father of the primary suspect, her romantic partner, arrived to give testimony, during which it was revealed that he was present in the Kiryat Haim apartment at the time of the killing. Following this disclosure, he was interrogated under caution and subsequently arrested, police announced Saturday evening.
Both suspects, in their 30s and 60s, deny any involvement in the murder. They were questioned by investigators from the Central Unit of the Asher Regional Police and detained overnight. Police plan to request a 10-day extension of their custody in court to facilitate further investigative steps.
The tragic incident unfolded Friday night when Zikova was found stabbed to death inside a residence in the Kiryat Haim neighborhood of Haifa. Officers from the Zevulun police station rushed to the scene following reports of a severe violent altercation, apprehending the victim's partner directly inside the apartment. Magen David Adom paramedics found Zikova in critical condition and performed extensive resuscitation efforts before pronouncing her dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigation details indicate that Zikova's six-year-old son was present and witnessed the horrific crime. A Haifa municipality official stated that municipal emergency welfare workers were immediately dispatched to assist the child. "The child is now in our care, and we are searching for extended family members or an emergency arrangement," the official said.
Recalling the harrowing scene, MDA paramedic Yuval Soris and EMT Amitai Eliya Yitzhari stated that they found the victim unconscious, pulseless, and breathless with severe trauma to her body. Medical personnel provided immediate treatment, including stopping hemorrhages and conducting CPR, but ultimately had to confirm her death.
