Doctors Remove Sprouted Plant Seed With 3mm Root From Patient Eye
Doctors in Yakutsk, Russia, removed a sprouted plant seed with a 3mm root from a 42-year-old man's eye after he suffered four months of chronic headaches.

Doctors in the Siberian city of Yakutsk have successfully removed a sprouted plant seed from the eye of a 42-year-old patient, according to local medical reports.
The patient, Maxim Sleptsov from the Abyysky District of the Sakha Republic, suffered four months of agonizing daily headaches, elevated intraocular pressure, and a persistent foreign body sensation after a tree branch struck his eye in the forest last summer. Initial attempts to remove the object failed, and a prior visit to a different medical facility had failed to detect the seed.
The unusual case was finally diagnosed at the Yakutsk Eye Hospital, where ophthalmologist and surgeon Elizaveta Karpova discovered a plant seed embedded within the conjunctival tissue, complete with a root measuring approximately three millimeters.
Dr. Karpova performed a successful extraction procedure using an injection needle under local anesthesia. Medical experts noted that leaving the seed untreated could have led to a corneal ulcer and eventual vision loss. Following the procedure, Sleptsov reported immediate relief and the cessation of his chronic headaches.
