Barcelona Defender Xavi Espart Sidelined for Seven Weeks with Ankle Injury
Barcelona defender Xavi Espart will miss seven weeks with a right ankle injury sustained in the 2-1 El Clasico defeat to Real Madrid. The 19-year-old's absence deals a heavy blow to Hansi Flick's depleted defensive lineup.

Barcelona announced on Monday that 19-year-old defender Xavi Espart will be sidelined for approximately seven weeks due to a right ankle injury sustained during Sunday's 2-1 El Clasico defeat to Real Madrid. Espart was hurt following a challenge by Aurelien Tchouameni, attempted to play through the pain, but was eventually replaced by Alejandro Balde in the 30th minute. Medical tests confirmed a ligament injury affecting the bones in the ankle area.
This injury deals a significant blow to manager Hansi Flick, especially given Espart's impressive breakthrough this season. The young full-back has rapidly evolved into a key player under the German coach, making nine appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals, and providing two assists. Having started in all eight of his league appearances and one Champions League match, his absence leaves a noticeable void in the squad.
Espart's setback comes at a particularly difficult time for Barcelona, who are already coping with the defensive absences of Jules Kounde, Eric Garcia, and Andreas Christensen. Flick will now have to reconfigure his backline ahead of a demanding fixture list that includes upcoming clashes against Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid. The defender is not expected to return to action until mid-December.
