Israel Embassy Marks Three Years Since October 7 with Washington Memorial
The Israeli Embassy in the United States hosted a memorial ceremony on Monday marking three years since the October 7 attacks. Held at a Washington synagogue, the event drew hundreds of diplomats, administration officials, and community leaders who gathered to honor acts of bravery and sacrifice while offering prayers for the injured.
Michael Needham, Assistant to the U.S. President and Deputy National Security Advisor, dedicated his keynote address to the condition of Neria Leiter, the son of Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Yehiel Leiter. Neria was critically wounded in a terrorist attack two weeks ago and continues to fight for his life.
"Following the attack, Yehiel wrote six words: 'They choose death, we choose life,'" Needham stated. "This is the line that separates civilization from barbarism. The forces of barbarism worship death and seek it as an end in itself."
Honoring National Resilience and Heroes
Deputy Chief of Mission Nevo Barhad addressed national resilience and the ongoing efforts to harm Israel. He emphasized that the October 7 assault exposed to the world what Israel's enemies sought to destroy but ultimately failed to break.
The evening's centerpiece featured a multimedia performance by the "Giborim" project, led by singer Gilad Segev, designed to shift the narrative surrounding the Jewish people from victimization to heroism. The event concluded with the singing of the national anthems of Israel and the United States.
