The harrowing ordeal and remarkable resilience of hostage survivor Evyatar David were revealed in depth on Monday evening during a comprehensive interview with journalist Ilana Dayan on the investigative program "Uvda".

Escape Attempts and Captivity Realities

During the interview, David detailed the extensive and prolonged efforts he made to escape captivity while held alone in a tunnel for long months. He shared his perspectives regarding a potential hostage deal and recounted a surprising statement he made to one of his Hamas guards.

David recalled having a deep conversation with one of his captors: "I told him—if you had been born in the State of Israel, there is a good chance you would have served in the IDF, and if I had been born in the Gaza Strip, there is a chance I would have joined Hamas. I must qualify this and say that I made these remarks before I heard about the atrocities that Hamas committed on October 7".

"He fled, and the terrorists caught him by the legs": Evyatar's heroism in captivity, and the story he kept secret.

Extracting Information from Captors

David described the cunning way he extracted information about the tunnel's location from one of the guards. By engaging him in conversation, he induced him to draw a map of the Gaza Strip, revealing geographical details about past incidents and regional dimensions.

When discussing the possibility of a hostage agreement, David addressed concerns surrounding negotiations. When asked if he would have acted differently regarding his parents' public stance, he responded: "I am proud of my parents. It was clear to me that a hostage deal must not be made at any cost".

Reflections on Freedom and the Past

Addressing his separation from his former partner Noa Argamani, with whom he attended the Nova music festival before they were both abducted to the Strip, David noted that circumstances had changed profoundly. "Things that fit back then, do not fit today. I continue to dance, and that is the most important thing".
