Warren Buffett Celebrates 96th Birthday While Maintaining Daily Office Routine
Warren Buffett, celebrating his birthday today, remains involved in investment decisions despite stepping down as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway earlier this year. Here is what has changed and how the market is responding.

Warren Buffett celebrates his 96th birthday today, marking a significant transition for the legendary investor. For the first time since 1965, Buffett is no longer the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway. In January, he handed over the position to his successor, Greg Abel, while remaining as the company's chairman. Despite the change, he stated in an interview with CNBC earlier this year that he continues to report to the office five days a week.
Reports indicate that Buffett remains actively involved in major investment decisions, such as increasing the stake in Alphabet, the parent company of Google. The value of this holding recently reached $36.6 billion, making it Berkshire's third-largest equity investment.
However, there is one area where Berkshire is undergoing a notable shift compared to the traditional Buffett era: the management of cash reserves.
Second-quarter reports revealed that the company became a net buyer of stocks for the first time in 14 quarters, investing approximately $19.8 billion in the market. Simultaneously, it repurchased its own shares for about $4.5 billion.
Berkshire's famous cash pile has begun to shrink, falling from $380.2 billion at the end of the first quarter to $364.7 billion by the end of June.
Investors are currently waiting to see if the Greg Abel era can replicate the firm's historical performance. Market sentiment remains cautious; while Berkshire stock jumped to a record high of $537.74 in August, it has since retreated. At the end of the week, shares were trading around $505, reflecting a gain of only about 0.5% year-to-date.
