Wall Street enters a busy week of macroeconomic data and critical decisions that could shape market trends, with the US Treasury bond market, Federal Reserve monetary policy, and soaring gold prices taking center stage. At the same time, US President Donald Trump’s proposal to distribute $5,000 to every adult American citizen has sparked concerns over a widening deficit and mounting government debt supply.

Fiscal Concerns and National Debt

Sandeep Rao, a research analyst at Leverage Shares, estimates that if the plan is implemented, its cost could reach $1.2 trillion to $1.3 trillion. This comes as the US deficit approaches $1.8 trillion and the national debt has surpassed the $40 trillion threshold.

"The fiscal math is very difficult without a significant increase in borrowing volume," says Rao. He notes that if financed through debt, the annual deficit could approach $3 trillion, potentially driving significant yield spikes.

Market sensitivity is already evident. On September 10, the yield on the 10-year US Treasury note closed around 4.96%, while the 30-year bond yield crossed 5.36%. However, Rao emphasizes that implementation depends on midterm election outcomes and maintaining Republican control in both congressional chambers.

Fed Rate Decisions and Inflation Pressures

Simultaneously, the market is bracing for the upcoming Federal Reserve rate decision. Reports indicate an 85% to 87% probability of a rate hike, despite President Trump’s preference for lower interest rates. Rao points out that while there are signs of easing inflation, rising energy costs could generate further pressures.

Inflation and retail sales data will also be pivotal. Paul Marino, Chief Revenue Officer at Themes ETFs, explains that the significance of the CPI release lies not just in the headline figure, but in the gap between actual results and forecasts.

"A higher-than-expected CPI will reinforce the scenario of 'higher for longer' interest rates, push bond yields higher, and exert pressure on growth stocks," Marino stated.

Gold, Macro Trends, and Geopolitics

Dr. Ilan Gildin, partner and hedge fund manager at Karni Family Office, believes the current macroeconomic environment points toward an era of sustained high interest rates. He argues that the current inflation wave stems largely from supply shocks, including energy prices and geopolitical tensions, rather than robust demand alone.

Simultaneously, Gildin highlights gold as an asset whose narrative has shifted. The rise in precious metal prices is driven not only by inflation fears, but also by de-dollarization trends and central bank gold purchases.

"It would be a mistake to view gold solely as a traditional inflation hedge," he notes, adding that while it remains a vital portfolio diversifier, recent rallies limit its near-term upside potential.
