US Imposes New Economic Sanctions on Iranian Financial Networks and Entities
The US Treasury has imposed new sanctions on Iranian financial networks, targeting 16 individuals and 10 entities while warning against the exploitation of religious charities for terror funding.

The United States Treasury Department announced new economic sanctions targeting Iran, adding 16 individuals and 10 entities to its blacklist. The measures focus on banks, money exchange firms, and energy trading companies operating across multiple jurisdictions.
Expanded Sanctions and Winding-Down Period
The newly designated entities include the International Development and Investment Bank based in Baghdad, two Iranian banks operating in Chabahar and Kish Island, and a trading company registered in Hong Kong. The Treasury also issued a temporary license allowing the orderly wind-down of transactions with the Iraqi bank until October 30.
Financial Enforcement and Charity Networks
Simultaneously, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network issued a warning regarding the Iranian regime's exploitation of religious charity networks to fund internal repression and external terror proxies. The alert highlights the abuse of traditional Khums religious tax payments.
Under the leadership of President Trump, the Treasury will not allow the Iranian regime to continue its long-standing history of exploiting religious institutions to line the pockets of its elites and finance terror, stated Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
