Senior Iranian source: 'There are no contacts to extend the ceasefire with the USA'

A senior Iranian source told Reuters today, Wednesday, that at this stage there are no contacts between Tehran and Washington regarding the extension of the ceasefire. The source stated:

"The United States violated the interim agreement just 48 hours after it was reached and subsequently withdrew from it within a few days."

These remarks gain additional weight in light of the fact that the parties are currently in the final days of the interim phase established in the memorandum. At this stage, understandings regarding the way forward are supposed to be clarified, but according to the senior Iranian source, there are currently no contacts regarding the extension of the ceasefire or the formulation of a framework to replace the temporary arrangement.

In Tehran, officials continue to claim that the responsibility for the collapse of the agreement lies with Washington, and clarify that any return to negotiations will be dependent on the American side meeting its commitments.

Meanwhile, it was reported yesterday that the Supreme Leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei, officially appointed three senior military commanders to key positions in the army, the Revolutionary Guards, and the paramilitary volunteer organization Basij.

The move comes as part of the renewal and restoration of the security command mechanisms in the country, which suffered heavy blows and the elimination of senior officials during the months of fighting against the United States and Israel.
