Israeli student uses Wolt deliveries to land a high-tech job
Idan Hershko, a student and graduate of Unit 81, decided to combine his work as a Wolt courier with his search for his first high-tech role by sticking QR codes with his resume onto delivery bags destined for tech company offices.
The current job market is challenging for everyone, especially for juniors trying to enter the industry. While many simply send out resumes, Idan Hershko, a graduate of Unit 81 and a student, decided to leverage his side job to reach the heart of high-tech companies in Tel Aviv during their lunch break.
Hershko is a fourth-year Industrial Engineering and Management student at Shenkar. He previously worked as a lab assistant at the Israeli startup Storedot, but is now pursuing a development role. In an interview with Geektime, he shared: "I've been looking for work for months. I sent out resumes, but I haven't been able to land a single interview." This led to his unique strategy: using his Wolt delivery route to target tech offices in Tel Aviv and Ramat Gan.
During his semester break, he built a landing page for his resume and printed 300 QR code stickers. When delivering to a target company, he attaches the sticker to the bag with a brief caption encouraging the recipient to scan it. He avoids direct confrontation: "I don't want to impose. To them, I'm just a courier. I want to deliver the food, smile, and wish them a good meal. Hopefully, the sticker reaches the right person."
Hershko remains confident: "I have strong credentials for a junior. My background in Unit 81 and experience in a tech company set me apart. My greatest strength is my ability to learn quickly. No matter the field, I can adapt and excel." While he has not yet received an interview request, his initiative has been noted.
This is not the first time tech job seekers have used creative methods. We have previously seen an HR professional hang a sign on her balcony, a project manager release a cover of a Disney song, and a programmer stand with a sign at NVIDIA's GTC 2024 conference. Difficult times clearly bring out the creativity in tech professionals.
