Returning in a big way: Strategy acquires hundreds of millions of dollars in Bitcoin
The company most identified with Bitcoin acquisitions is returning to the market with another purchase of thousands of coins. How much did it spend and what might this move say about its strategy in the current period?

Strategy, the American company that has made Bitcoin acquisition a central part of its financial strategy, is returning to making significant purchases. According to the company's report, Strategy acquired an additional 4,603 Bitcoins for approximately $369.7 million, at an average price of about $80,000 per coin. Following this new acquisition, the company holds 845,050 Bitcoins, a figure that illustrates the scale of its massive exposure to the digital currency. The move comes after a period in which the company's pace of acquisitions had slowed, and therefore the purchase received special attention in the market.
The company Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, does not operate like a private investor who buys a few coins and waits for a rise. In recent years, the company has built a strategy in which it raises capital and uses it, among other things, to increase its Bitcoin reserve. According to the published data, the average purchase price of all the Bitcoin held by the company stands at about $73,723 per coin, including expenses and fees related to the acquisitions. This means that the company still holds Bitcoin at an average price significantly lower than the purchase price in the latest transaction. However, this is also an unusual exposure: when Bitcoin rises, the value of the company's assets may grow rapidly, but sharp drops in the currency could also significantly affect the company's value and its attractiveness to investors.
The volume of Strategy's holdings effectively makes it one of the largest players in the Bitcoin market and allows investors to gain indirect exposure to the currency through the company's stock. This is also the reason why every new purchase is tracked in the market: investors are trying to understand whether the company continues to believe that the current price is attractive, or if this is a move intended to continue and establish the strategy that has already made it identified with Bitcoin. The current acquisition demonstrates that despite the high volatility in the market, Strategy is not giving up on the direction it has chosen. For the crypto market, this is another sign that institutional players and public companies continue to allocate huge sums to Bitcoin. Although it is also a reminder that a bet of this scale on a volatile asset comes with significant risk.
