Investor group including Bezos acquires about a third of Liverpool FC at a valuation of $7.1 billion
An investor group led by Jeff Bezos has become a minority shareholder in Liverpool FC. The deal values the club at $7.1 billion and includes an option for the group to become majority shareholders within 12 months.

A group including Jeff Bezos has signed a deal with Fenway Sports Group (FSG), under which it will become a minority shareholder in Liverpool Football Club, FSG announced on Friday. Negotiations for the deal were reported about three weeks ago.
According to a report by CNBC, this marks the Amazon founder's first investment in a sports asset. The consortium will acquire about a third of the English Premier League club, with the deal valuing the club at approximately $7.1 billion, according to people familiar with the matter.
As a condition of the agreement, the investment group holds an option to become the majority shareholder of Liverpool at a valuation of about $8 billion within the next 12 months. The largest contribution to the $7.1 billion minority investment, exceeding $1 billion, comes from K5 Global, with Jeff Bezos serving as the lead investor in the K5 fund.
The consortium behind the deal, 1892 Holdings, is managed by businessman Amit Bhatia, a key partner in the transaction and a former co-owner of Queens Park Rangers. The group also includes K5 Sports and EE Capital, the family investment office of Elaine and Eduardo Saverin, one of the founders of Facebook.
Bhatia will serve as the new vice-chairman of Liverpool and will join the club's expanded board of directors. Bezos will not hold a seat on the board, but Brian Baum from K5 Sports and Elaine Saverin will join it. The investment group declined to comment.
The club stated that the new minority shareholders will support Liverpool's long-term ambitions by integrating global experts from the worlds of business, technology, and investment.
"Liverpool has always been built with a view beyond a single season and with decision-making that considers the long-term interests of the club. This approach continues to attract interest from investors and respected business leaders around the world. When we examined this opportunity, it became clear that Amit and the consortium share our long-term philosophy and our appreciation for what makes Liverpool special," said FSG President Mike Gordon in a press release.
Bezos, who built his wealth as the founder of Amazon, has a fortune estimated at $272 billion by Forbes. He previously explored the possibility of acquiring NFL teams Washington Commanders and Seattle Seahawks. In CNBC's 2026 official valuation ranking, Liverpool was ranked the fourth most expensive football club in the world, with a valuation of $6 billion. The club has won 20 league titles, with its last championship in 2025.
