A 3-year-old toddler choked today, Wednesday, on a piece of sponge at his home in Bnei Brak. MADA teams summoned to the scene found him with impaired consciousness. After maneuvers they performed, the team members managed to extract the piece of sponge from his throat, and within seconds he regained full consciousness.

MADA paramedics Eitan Englander and Michal Peles, and MADA medic Yosef Pesach said that upon receiving the call, they rushed to the family's home: "We arrived quickly at the scene and ran into the apartment. We saw the toddler with impaired consciousness and his facial skin was blue. We immediately understood that it was choking and began performing life-saving maneuvers to remove the foreign object from his throat."

According to them, during the maneuvers, a piece of sponge that was blocking the airways came out of the toddler's mouth: "The improvement in his condition was almost immediate. After a few seconds, the color of his face returned to normal and he regained full consciousness."

After he recovered and his condition stabilized, the toddler was evacuated in a MADA intensive care ambulance to Beilinson Hospital, in stable condition.
