The Ukrainian Armed Forces have released footage documenting what is described as the world's first evacuation of a wounded soldier from the front lines using a heavy-duty drone. The historic operation comes at a sensitive time as Kyiv faces complex geopolitical challenges and ongoing defense struggles against Russia.

The Drone Evacuation Operation

Published by the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade, the video shows a wounded infantryman strapping himself to a large hexacopter drone. The soldier is then airlifted at a relatively low altitude over a blurred landscape until the drone safely lands him behind the lines. The drone operator greets him upon arrival, marking a groundbreaking moment in tactical combat medical evacuation.

Due to intensive enemy drone activity and heavy minefields, standard ground-based evacuation methods were completely impossible, the brigade stated.

Technological Innovation in Combat

Faced with severe personnel shortages and relentless combat conditions, Ukrainian forces have increasingly turned to innovative technological solutions. The heavy-duty hexacopter, originally designed for dropping ordnance, was repurposed for the rescue mission after rigorous testing to ensure stability while carrying human weight.

  • Brigade engineers verified the weight limits and balance parameters.

  • The rescued soldier is currently undergoing medical treatment and rehabilitation.

  • Drone units continue to expand tactical operations previously considered science fiction.
