Egypt Parliament Weighs Military Deployment to Saudi Arabia Amid Houthi Threats
Egypt's parliament debates deploying defensive military forces to Saudi Arabia to counter Houthi attacks, as regional tensions escalate following significant drone and missile strikes.

Egypt's parliament continues discussions regarding the deployment of military forces to Saudi Arabia to assist Riyadh in countering Houthi rebels in Yemen. The deliberations follow a request by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to convene parliament to secure backing for the Gulf kingdom, emphasizing that Egypt stands firmly with its allies.
Parliamentary Review and Strategic Coordination
Lawmaker Mostafa Bakry clarified that the assembly is reviewing el-Sisi's decision to dispatch defensive forces following an endorsement by the National Defense Council. Sources indicate that Cairo's priority is deploying air defense batteries and logistical support to secure vital infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, while strictly avoiding offensive operations inside Yemen.
Regional Repercussions and Houthi Warnings
The move comes amid heightened Houthi missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi territory, which have impacted the kingdom's economy and Vision 2030 initiatives. Meanwhile, senior Houthi official Mohammed al-Bukhiti warned Cairo against repeating its historical military entanglement in Yemen from the 1960s, criticizing the leadership in Riyadh.
