A British man spent nearly three years believing he was the father of two children, sending around 30,000 pounds to his former partner before discovering through court proceedings that the entire narrative was likely an elaborate fraud. The couple, referred to as Jane and John, met during the COVID-19 pandemic, and by late 2022, Jane announced she was pregnant, providing ultrasound images to support her claims.

The Escalation of the Deception

Shortly before the expected birth date in May 2023, a dispute arose, leading Jane to file a police complaint alleging assault, which resulted in John being detained for several months. While he was in custody, Jane informed his stepfather that the baby had been born, sending photographs. Upon his release, John still had not seen the child, as Jane claimed the baby was staying with a relative and authorities restricted access.

Jane later claimed she was pregnant with a second child, due in August 2024. After they separated, she told John's mother that the second baby had been born, even sending a voice note featuring the sound of a crying baby, which she later admitted originated from a YouTube video. Throughout this period, John continued sending financial support totaling approximately 30,000 pounds over two years, until Jane bizarrely claimed the two children had been sold for a combined total of 500 pounds.

Court Discovery and Ruling

Seeking to locate the children and secure parental responsibility, John turned to the family court. During the proceedings, Jane confessed that the children did not exist and that she fabricated the pregnancies out of revenge, citing allegations of abuse that the judge noted were unproven.

The judge concluded that the most plausible explanation was that the two children never existed and that John was the victim of a sustained and sophisticated campaign of deception.

Reviewing the evidence, the judge found no medical records, no local authority documentation, and discovered that bank records placed Jane at a tanning salon on the very day she claimed to have given birth. While the exact motivation remains unclear, the court highlighted both potential financial gain and underlying psychological factors behind the cruel deception.
