The 36th Division recently completed the clearing of two underground routes of Hezbollah on the Ali-Tahar ridge in southern Lebanon, the IDF spokesperson announced this Thursday evening. The forces achieved operational control in the ridge area above and below ground, and cleared the area of terrorists, some of whom were eliminated and some of whom fled the scene. Operational control was achieved through ambushes, attacks on shafts with gunfire, the use of grenades, drones, and fire strikes.
Inside the underground infrastructure, the soldiers found command centers, weapons storage rooms, generator rooms, and living quarters that included showers and a kitchen. The equipment and conditions found at the site allowed terrorists of the Badr unit to stay in the infrastructure and conduct combat operations from them for long periods. Following the activity in the routes in recent weeks, the ability to implement terror plots against the citizens of the State of Israel and IDF forces from within the routes has been neutralized, the IDF spokesperson stated.
Until now, a heavy security blackout was imposed on the very fact of the activity in the complex. Preventing publication was intended to protect the safety of the forces operating inside the complex route, alongside the attempt to prevent Hezbollah from understanding the operational situation and to deny it the possibility of attempting to rescue or provide life support to the terrorists trapped at the site. The decision of the defense establishment to allow the information for publication also carries a direct deterrent message to the other side. At the same time, the IDF and the defense establishment are aware that the public exposure of the loss of the complex may trigger response attempts by Hezbollah, and are prepared in full readiness for any possible development in the coming days.
Iranian planning and funding
According to army data, this is a strategic infrastructure that was built over two decades with the funding and joint planning of the Iranian terror regime. Both infrastructures were used by the unit's terrorists to manage fire arrays and carry out terror plots against Israeli citizens and security forces over the last decades. During the war, and in particular in operations "Northern Arrows" and "Lion's Roar", the organization's terrorists used these routes continuously.
The IDF advanced to the Ali-Tahar ridge area recently after bringing about the weakening of Hezbollah throughout the fighting. The IDF clarified that the army continues to be committed to the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon, but will not allow Hezbollah to advance terror plots against it, and any attempt at action will be met with force.
