Trump happy that Harry and Meghan left the USA - and attacks: "Lack of respect"
The President addressed in the Oval Office the decision of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to leave California and return to the UK at the end of last month. Trump sharply criticized their conduct toward the British royal family: "If I were the royal family, I would not have taken them back."
According to a report by the Reuters news agency, US President Donald Trump said today, Wednesday, in the Oval Office that he is "happy" that Prince Harry and his family left the United States and returned to the UK.
"I am happy about it. I was not a fan of theirs," Trump said when asked about the decision of Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, to leave California after six years. The family returned to the UK at the end of August, after the couple stepped down from their official royal duties in 2020 and moved to the United States.
"I felt they treated the royal family with great disrespect. I didn't like it," Trump said, noting his "good relationship" with the late Queen Elizabeth and her successor, King Charles. The President specifically criticized Meghan: "I didn't like the way she behaved. I felt she was terribly disrespectful. If I were the royal family, I would not have taken them back," Trump added.
A source close to the couple stated last month that the family plans to move to a location outside London for an extended period together with their children, 7-year-old Prince Archie and 5-year-old Princess Lilibet, who will attend school in the UK. It is unclear what caused the change for the couple, but Harry has previously stated that he wants his children to spend time in the UK.
