Tragedy in Italy: Parents drove 100 km unaware their son had passed away
A couple traveling in northern Italy stopped at a rest station after failing to wake their 31-year-old son. Medical teams arrived at the scene and pronounced him dead; a suspected cardiac event is currently being investigated.
A Romanian man died on Sunday while traveling on a highway in northern Italy. His parents, who were in the car with him, continued driving for about a hundred kilometers, believing he had fallen asleep in the back seat, until they stopped at a roadside station and discovered he was unresponsive.
According to the Italian news agency ANSA, the family was traveling toward Turin on the A21 highway. The father was driving, the mother was in the passenger seat, and the young man was in the back. During the trip, he stopped responding to his parents' attempts to engage him. The couple assumed he was sleeping and chose to continue their journey.
After driving about a hundred kilometers, the parents stopped around 7:30 AM at a rest station between Casteggio and Voghera in the province of Pavia. Upon attempting to check on their son, they realized he was unresponsive and had no pulse. They immediately contacted Italian emergency services.
A medical team arrived shortly thereafter but was forced to pronounce him dead at the scene. His parents informed the medical staff that their son had previously suffered from minor heart issues. Following this information, the possibility that the sudden death was caused by a heart attack is being investigated, though the exact cause of death has not yet been officially determined.
