Former UFC fighter and U.S. Army Special Forces veteran Tim Kennedy was shot three times in the leg during a lethal ambush in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The attack resulted in approximately 20 casualties, according to an investigative report published by Reuters on Friday.
Kennedy was operating as part of a security detail for Vectus Global, a private security firm owned by Erik Prince, the founder of Blackwater and an ally of U.S. President Donald Trump. The incident occurred on September 17 in the South Kivu province of eastern Congo as the team traveled between locations.

Casualties and Corporate Operations
According to sources familiar with the details, the deceased included at least seven Congolese civilians and Justin Conaglen, a former New Zealand Special Forces soldier. Kennedy sustained three gunshot wounds to his leg, was evacuated through Burundi and South Africa, and is currently recovering in the United States in stable condition.
The Vectus Global team was operating in Congo to protect state mining revenues, combat smuggling, and assist with tax collection. Analysts suggest the attackers may have tracked the group using a drone previously utilized for aerial surveillance.

Kennedy, 47, competed in the UFC between 2013 and 2016, securing notable victories including a win over British fighter Michael Bisping. Following his retirement from mixed martial arts, he transitioned into social media commentary, fitness branding, and hosting a popular YouTube podcast.
