Thai authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into Israeli business networks and land acquisitions in southern provinces, alongside compliance checks on Chabad houses.
Thai authorities are dramatically expanding investigations into Israeli entities and businesses across the country. According to reports, the Thai Deputy Interior Minister announced a comprehensive probe following information received from parliamentarians indicating that a network of Israelis acquired land worth nearly 100 million baht in three southern provinces.
The investigation focuses on companies involved in establishing cemeteries and other businesses near the sensitive border with Malaysia. Authorities are working to determine the origin of the funds, the true beneficiaries behind the purchases, and whether Thai nominee strawmen were used to bypass local laws prohibiting foreign land ownership.
Simultaneously, the investigation addresses Chabad houses across the country, focusing on building permits, business licenses, and funding sources. At the Chabad house in Phuket, authorities reported finding construction irregularities on the sixth floor and imported food products lacking proper approval, giving operators 30 days to resolve the issues.
Thai officials emphasize that the current wave of inspections is not specifically targeted against the Jewish community, but forms part of a broader enforcement operation targeting foreign companies. However, officials noted concerns that land acquisitions could potentially spark cultural or religious tensions in sensitive border regions.
