CNN Poll Shows Record 15% of Americans View Israel as an Enemy
A new CNN poll reveals that only 34% of Americans view Israel as an ally, while 15% consider it an enemy, marking the highest hostile sentiment recorded since 2000.
A new CNN poll released on Tuesday highlights a concerning trend, with only 34% of Americans considering the United States a close ally, while a significant 15% view the country as an "enemy." Amid ongoing economic tensions between Donald Trump and Canada, the status of America's northern neighbor has also experienced a sharp decline.
The poll surveyed 1,200 respondents regarding their perception of several nations, including Russia, Cuba, China, Ukraine, and Canada. Participants were asked to categorize each country as an ally, friend, unfriendly, or enemy. The findings reflect growing isolationism and skepticism among the American public, with no surveyed country receiving over 50% support in the "ally" or "friend" categories combined.
Canada and Ukraine in the Polls
According to the survey, Canada remains viewed as a leading ally, though support has plummeted from 51% in March 2025 to just 38% amid recent trade friction. This drop spans across party lines but is particularly steep among Republicans. Israel follows closely with 34% viewing it as an ally, while Ukraine records 22%.
"The poll demonstrates a shifting landscape in American public opinion regarding foreign policy, marked by rising skepticism across multiple demographics," political analysts noted.
Rising Hostility Toward Israel
In a concerning development, 15% of respondents now define Israel as an "enemy"—the highest figure recorded in CNN polls since 2000, and roughly double the rate from March 2025. Data analysis shows this shift is concentrated primarily among Democrats and independent voters leaning Democratic, as well as younger demographics under the age of 45.
