Tel Aviv Connects New 217 Million Shekel Underground Electrical Substation
The Israel Electric Corporation connected a new 217 million shekel underground substation in Tel Aviv to bolster power reliability for Ramat Aviv and northern Tel Aviv.
The Israel Electric Corporation has completed the connection of a new underground electrical substation named "Tel Aviv University," built with an investment of approximately 217 million shekels. This infrastructure project is designed to strengthen the power grid and improve the reliability of electricity supply for residents of Ramat Aviv and northern Tel Aviv, as well as local businesses and institutions.
The complex project took about four years to complete and involved constructing the station at a depth of roughly 20 meters underground amidst active urban topography. The station is equipped with two power transformers with a capacity of 75 megawatts each, totaling 150 megawatts to support rising electricity consumption and regional development, including new neighborhoods planned at the Sde Dov site.
Key engineering challenges included complex excavation and shoring work, as well as lowering massive transformers into the underground facility near an active roadway. Yaron Lieb, head of the transformation division at the Israel Electric Corporation, noted that the facility will serve the region for years to come.
