Tel Aviv Resident Arrested for Extortion After Burglarizing Tourist
A Tel Aviv resident was arrested for allegedly burglarizing a Brazilian tourist's apartment, demanding a ransom for the stolen luxury watch, passport, and jewelry.
A police investigation was launched following a complaint by a tourist from Brazil regarding a burglary at her apartment in Tel Aviv and the theft of valuable property. According to the investigation, the suspect allegedly contacted the victim and offered to return her belongings in exchange for a payment of 10,000 shekels. Investigators and detectives from the Tel Aviv North station in the Yarkon region initiated tracking and operational activities. During an operation conducted on Wednesday in Tel Aviv, the suspect was arrested upon arriving at a pre-arranged, controlled meeting. Upon the arrival of the 35-year-old Tel Aviv resident at the meeting, which was intended to secure money for the stolen property, he was arrested by detectives waiting at the scene. A search of the scooter the suspect arrived on yielded a luxury watch worth approximately 40,000 shekels, allegedly stolen from the victim's apartment, as well as a knife. Subsequently, a search conducted at the apartment where the suspect was staying uncovered the victim's passport, bags, and jewelry worth tens of thousands of shekels. The suspect was arrested and transferred for questioning at the Tel Aviv North station. He will be brought before a court this morning for a remand hearing.
