Teads, formerly known as Outbrain, is facing a severe financial crisis following its acquisition by Patrick Drahi's Altice, with its stock plunging 30% in New York to a market capitalization of just $18 million. The dramatic drop reflects deep market concerns over the company's ability to service its mounting debt.

Approximately a year and a half ago, Outbrain acquired Teads from Altice in a deal that valued the target company at $1 billion. At the time, the transaction raised eyebrows as it heavily strained Outbrain, which was trading at roughly $200 million. To finance the purchase, the company took on more than $600 million in debt, primarily to fund the cash component of the transaction.

Reporting its third-quarter 2026 results, Teads announced a staggering goodwill impairment of $272 million, wiping out a vast portion of the valuation originally attributed to Teads. This impairment drove the company to a massive quarterly net loss of $325 million. Operational performance also deteriorated significantly, with revenues tumbling 26% to $235 million, compared to a loss of $19 million in the same period last year.

At the close of the quarter, Teads held $90 million in cash against total liabilities of $657 million, which includes a high-interest debt burden of $608 million. Amid these weak operational results and mounting debt pressures, Teads suspended its future financial guidance. The digital advertising sector is also undergoing structural shifts due to artificial intelligence, further challenging the company's business model. Meanwhile, its Israeli rival Taboola also missed market forecasts, echoing the broader headwinds facing the ad-tech industry.
