Taj Gibson Retires from NBA, Joins Chicago Bulls Coaching Staff
Taj Gibson has retired from basketball after 17 NBA seasons and joined the Chicago Bulls coaching staff under head coach Tiago Splitter.
Taj Gibson has retired from basketball and joined Tiago Splitter's coaching staff with the Chicago Bulls, ending a 17-season NBA career across eight teams.
The 41-year-old forward-center was originally drafted by Chicago in the first round of the 2009 NBA Draft, playing his first seven seasons and part of an eighth with the Bulls.
"This is the start of a new chapter," Gibson wrote on social media. "After 31 years of basketball, I can walk away with no regrets, knowing I left everything on the floor. God has truly blessed me."
Gibson averaged 8.3 points and 5.7 rebounds over 1,012 career games, also playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons, Charlotte Hornets, and Memphis Grizzlies.
Waived by the New Orleans Pelicans after being acquired in a trade from Memphis last week, Gibson reflected on his journey: "I wanted to be the guy my teammates could rely on—someone who brought toughness, energy, leadership, and heart every time I stepped on the floor."
