US-Israel Vision Gap on Syria

A member of Syria's People's Council, Nawar Najma, stated on Thursday that a significant gap exists between the visions of the United States and Israel regarding Syria. According to Najma, while Washington views Syria as a stable ally and a key player in regional solutions, Israel remains deeply concerned about Damascus's growing regional role. He also declared that Syria will not yield a single grain of the Golan Heights. These remarks followed a meeting on Wednesday between Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and US envoy Tom Barrack.

Speaking to the "Al-Quds Al-Arabi" newspaper, Najma claimed that Israeli concerns lack genuine security justifications and instead reflect skepticism toward the establishment of stable states in the region. He asserted that Israel pursues outdated strategies based on chaos and division. In contrast, he argued, Washington's current vision intersects with President Ahmed al-Sharaa's approach, which focuses on stability, crisis management, and long-term strategic vision.

The Golan Heights and 1974 Agreement

Addressing the Syrian demand for Israel to return to the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and the December 2024 lines, Najma emphasized that the new Syria rejects any political equations sought by Israel. "There will be no concession of a single grain of the occupied Golan Heights, and no retreat from Syria's strategic rights," he stated.

Najma noted that American positions have taken on a highly positive character, influenced by direct communication channels and a high level of trust between US President Donald Trump and President Ahmed al-Sharaa. He concluded that Syrian diplomacy remains committed to peace, de-escalation, and political solutions, viewing stability as an urgent national interest.
