Storm Adam Batters Spain: Ibiza Airport Flooded and Red Alerts Issued
Storm Adam has caused severe flooding in Spain, disrupting Ibiza Airport operations and resulting in a tragic fatality near Barcelona. Meteorological authorities have issued red alerts.

Severe Storm Adam Hits Spain Causing Major Flooding
Storm Adam has lashed Spain with torrential rains, causing severe flooding at Ibiza Airport, the closure of terminals, and the cancellation of departing flights. Flights originating from the United Kingdom were forced to divert to other airports across Spain as roads transformed into rushing rivers, sweeping away cars in Ibiza.
Tragically, a 35-year-orange woman lost her life after being swept away while attempting to cross a swollen river with her children near Barcelona. Her husband managed to rescue their daughter, but the mother was swept away in Cabrera de Mar. Following an extensive search involving six fire units, drones, and divers, her body was recovered this morning at a sports marina along the Maresme coast.
Red Alerts Issued and Transport Disrupted
The Spanish meteorological agency, Aemet, has warned of exceptional meteorological hazards, elevating the alert level for Ibiza to red amid fears of unprecedented rainfall amounts. In Valencia, residents received emergency alerts on their mobile phones, with authorities urging citizens to stay indoors as forecasts predict up to 700 millimeters of rain within a 12-hour window.
"The meteorological danger is of an extraordinary magnitude, and open-air infrastructure could suffer catastrophic damage," Aemet stated.
At Ibiza Airport, rainwater poured through ceilings and flooded terminals, while overflowing sewage systems compounded the crisis. Flights from London, Bristol, and five other British destinations were redirected to Mallorca and Alicante. This severe weather revives painful memories of the devastating 2024 floods in Spain, which claimed approximately 241 lives.
