Belgian Philosopher Warns Europe Over Riots And Antisemitism
Belgian philosopher and author Maarten Boudry published a sharp critique on X, arguing that Europe's indifference to Jewish community warnings and its hostile stance toward Israel since October 7 are now rebounding as a domestic boomerang.
"Soon we will all know what it feels like to be a Jew. In France, they already know," Boudry wrote. He described the situation as "the punishment we deserve for abandoning the Jews, ignoring their warnings, turning against them, and even marching alongside their oppressors." He strongly criticized European pro-Palestinian movements and French President Emmanuel Macron's stance on Palestinian statehood.
The Allure of Appeasement and Rising Unrest
Boudry argued that for three years, protesters across Europe marched with Palestinian flags and chanted slogans while Israel was ostracized. Referring to the illusion of appeasement, he asked: "Did you think that if you fed the crocodile enough Jewish meat it would eventually get full?"
These remarks came amid massive riots in France, where demonstrations against the cost of living escalated into looting, arson, and violent clashes. Hundreds of thousands participated, leading to nearly two thousand arrests. While a Paris synagogue and Jewish-owned businesses in Marseille sustained damage, community security services noted no immediate evidence linking the attacks specifically to Jewish ownership.
