Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez Narrows Polling Gap Ahead of Snap Elections
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has narrowed the polling gap against opposition leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo ahead of snap elections, amid housing crises and urban protests.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has successfully narrowed the gap against opposition leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo of the People's Party (PP) ahead of the upcoming snap elections, according to a poll published by the conservative newspaper El Mundo.
The Sigma Dos survey indicates that Sánchez and his leftist bloc have halted their downward trend, gaining six seats in Parliament. If elections were held today, Feijóo would win with 30.6% of the vote—his lowest approval rating since taking party leadership and down 2.5% from 2023. Meanwhile, Sánchez stands at 26.1%, reducing the gap between the two major rivals from 6.2% to 4.5% within a single week.
Political Shifting and Snap Elections
Sánchez called early elections for November 29, bypassing the original 2027 schedule. Official justifications cite the severe national housing crisis, though political analysts note the move aims to divert public attention from corruption scandals involving his relatives, as well as migration pressures.
Protests and Social Unrest
Spain has experienced escalating social tensions, fueled by nationwide housing protests and recent urban riots in Barcelona and Madrid featuring clashes with police, arson, and looting amid broader European unrest trends.
