IDF Soldier Faces Murder Charges Amid Crime Family Feud in Bir al-Maksur

A prosecutor's statement was filed against a 24-year-old IDF soldier from Bir al-Maksur, suspected of involvement in the murder of Ali Sawaed amid a bloody conflict between the Sawaed and Khaldi crime families. Several suspects were arrested by Lahav 433's Yamavar (National Unit for Serious Crime Investigations) during the investigation.
On August 12, 2026, early in the morning, as Hisham Hujeirat left his house, a vehicle blocked his path. According to the filed prosecutor's statement, one of the suspects emerged from the car, shot at Hujeirat, and all fled the scene. Emergency medical personnel who arrived at the location were forced to pronounce him dead. After investigators located the suspected getaway car abandoned in a forest near Bir al-Maksur, a suspect was arrested after arriving at the scene allegedly to burn the vehicle.
The 24-year-old soldier from Bir al-Maksur was arrested and held for 40 days while Yamavar investigators established an evidentiary foundation regarding his involvement in the murder. The Haifa District Prosecutor's Office submitted the prosecutor's statement signaling their intent to file a formal indictment.
Police Commissioner Inspector General Dani Levy expressed his high appreciation to the Yamavar Lahav 433 officers for solving three murder cases amid the bloody conflict between criminal organizations. He noted that the Israel Police will continue its persistent and uncompromising fight against crime and violence in Arab society.
