Shufersal Resumes Sales of Tnuva Butter at Higher Prices

Tnuva halted butter supplies to Shufersal after the chain rejected price increases ahead of Shavuot. Products have returned to shelves at higher prices, though the hikes vary and did not always reach the 4.8% increase requested by Tnuva. While some competitors maintained previous pricing, others raised costs by as much as 11%.

The dispute has partially concluded: Tnuva has resumed butter supplies to the Shufersal chain. The product disappeared from shelves in May after the retailer refused to accept Tnuva’s proposed price hikes. While the butter has now returned, prices at Shufersal have risen, though in most cases, the increase remains below the 4.8% hike requested by Tnuva.

Shufersal has yet to restock Piraeus cheeses and Yoplait yogurts, which were removed from the range in response to the dairy giant's pricing strategy. Although Tnuva did not raise prices on those specific items, it did increase the cost of long-life milk and 9% white cheese.

Price Analysis at Shufersal

  • At the Universe chain, the price rose by 1% (from 9.80 to 9.90 NIS).

  • At Shufersal Express, the price increased by approximately 4.8% (from 10.40 to 10.90 NIS).

  • At Shufersal Sheli, the price rose by 3.9% (from 10.30 to 10.70 NIS).

  • At Shufersal Deal and Shufersal Online, the price remained unchanged at 9.90 NIS.

Market Overview

Many chains have passed the price increases on to consumers. The most significant hikes were observed at Yellow (up 11.21%, from 10.70 to 11.90 NIS), Super Sapir (up 10.5%), and Freshmarket (up 6.7%). Conversely, retailers like Rami Levy, Yohananof, and Osher Ad maintained prices between 8.90 and 9.50 NIS, while Carrefour’s discount branches kept the price at 7.90 NIS.

Tnuva butter remains among the most affordable options. For comparison, imported brands such as Finland’s Valio, France’s Legal, or Italy’s Gad dairy products range from 12.90 to 27.80 NIS. Competitors like Alma, Tara, and Euro offer alternatives ranging from 7.90 to 16.90 NIS depending on current promotions.
