Sderot Mayor Alon Davidi has issued an urgent strategic warning regarding the threat of explosive drone swarms and aerial incursions from the Gaza Strip targeting Sderot and surrounding communities. In a letter sent to Defense Minister Israel Katz, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, and regional commanders, Davidi demanded urgent defense preparations against airborne raids.

Davidi warned that existing defense systems may fail to counter evolving battlefield threats. Noting that over three years have passed since the October 7 attacks, he stressed the urgent need to prepare the city for future threats, pointing to lessons from the war in Ukraine where drones are heavily utilized. He highlighted concerns that heavy drones are already smuggling advanced weapons into Gaza and questioned whether current shelters can protect residents from explosive drones.

The mayor outlined three key demands for the defense establishment: issuing Home Front Command civilian defense guidelines against drone swarms, integrating Sderot into low-altitude detection and real-time alert systems, and deploying counter-drone neutralization measures along the perimeter.

Davidi's appeal aligns with demands from 11 local authorities in the Western Negev, led by the Western Negev Cluster Emergency Forum, calling for a joint security session to address gaps in regional defense coordination, command authorities, and communication systems.
