Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar invited Israel Einhorn, a fugitive facing an arrest warrant and links to multiple criminal probes, to the inauguration of Israel's embassy in Ljubljana on Wednesday, Haaretz reported Thursday.
Sa'ar's Defense and Prior Incidents
Sa'ar's office defended the invitation, stating that Einhorn has contributed and continues to contribute to Israel-Slovenia relations. Despite pending legal troubles, Einhorn previously attended an Israeli embassy event in the United States in the presence of Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana.
"Srulik Einhorn was asked personally and by his lawyers to present himself for interrogation; if he wants to remain in Serbia as a fugitive, that is his choice and we will do our part," the State Attorney's Office stated.
Criminal Investigations and Allegations
In January, Israel Police confirmed an active arrest warrant for Einhorn, a key suspect in the "Qatargate" affair revealed by Channel 12 and Bild. His name is tied to three major cases, including the harassment of state witness Shlomo Filber, the German Bild classified document leak, and Qatargate. Einhorn, a former Likud campaign manager close to Benjamin Netanyahu's associates, has repeatedly rejected requests for questioning and negotiated terms to avoid arrest upon return.
