Resistant to gunfire and explosive devices: Benjamin Netanyahu filmed in new armored limousine

The State of Israel has acquired 8 new armored Audi A8 Security limousines, intended for the Prime Minister, the President, and the Shin Bet. The vehicles will be used to transport VIPs, including visiting heads of state and senior ministers for whom there are active security warnings. The limousines are already in operational service; Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was filmed this week in the new vehicle ahead of a visit to the Malha Mall in Jerusalem.
The cost of each limousine is estimated at at least three million shekels. Four vehicles have been transferred to the Prime Minister's Office for Netanyahu, two to the President's Residence for Isaac Herzog, and two to the Shin Bet for various operational needs.
According to the vehicle administration, these cars must be replaced every four years. The previous models had been in service since 2018, but the replacement process was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic and the war. The old vehicles had traveled hundreds of thousands of kilometers, suffered significant wear and tear due to the heavy armor, and required maintenance twice a week.
The latest models include unique protection adjustments requested by the Shin Bet. The vehicles are equipped with systems to filter toxic gases in the event of a chemical attack, integrated communication systems, and the ability to lock the cabin from the inside. The cars are resistant to small arms fire and roadside explosive devices.
In addition to security features, the vehicles include luxury amenities such as a refrigerator, special leather upholstery, and wood paneling. Representatives of the vehicle administration and the Shin Bet oversaw the equipment installation at Audi factories in Germany. Passengers have noted that due to the heavy armor, the interior space is significantly more cramped.
