MK Simcha Rothman Demands Investigation Into Suspected Foreign Election Meddling
MK Simcha Rothman urged a comprehensive investigation into suspected foreign state interference in Israeli elections, criticizing initial dismissals and calling for accountability regarding potential security failures.

MK Simcha Rothman (Religious Zionism) has called for a thorough investigation into suspected foreign state interference in Israeli elections, following reports linking the Palestinian Authority to the matter.
Speaking on 103fm radio, Rothman recalled that when he first petitioned the Central Election Committee and the head of the Shin Bet, his warnings were initially dismissed as conspiracy theories. He stressed that foreign interference is now widely acknowledged by figures such as Supreme Court Justice Noam Solberg and politicians, making it a non-partisan issue demanding accountability.
Addressing potential ramifications, Rothman declined to immediately demand annulled election results, arguing that the true scale must first be uncovered. He noted that if interference swayed tens or hundreds of thousands of votes, a re-vote might become unavoidable. He also criticized restrictions placed by the Attorney General on relevant inquiries, warning that hindering transparency threatens Israeli democracy.
Rothman concluded that any confirmed foreign meddling points directly to an intelligence failure within the Shin Bet, whose mandate includes preempting such security breaches.
