Israeli Credit Card Spending Rises to 459M Shekels Ahead of Rosh Hashanah
Israeli public credit card spending reached 459.06 million shekels on Friday morning ahead of Rosh Hashanah 5787, marking a 2.7 percent increase over last year according to SHVA data.
A slight increase in public credit card spending was recorded Friday morning ahead of the Rosh Hashanah 5787 holiday. Early Friday morning, the Israeli public spent over 459.06 million shekels.
This represents a 2.7 percent increase compared to credit card spending recorded on Erev Rosh Hashanah last year. These figures were published by SHVA (Automated Bank Services), which develops and manages the national payment system for charge cards.
Representatives from the company explained the consistent surge in card usage. "The Israeli public is taking advantage of the hours before the holiday begins and has been making large-scale purchases since the early morning hours," SHVA described regarding consumer behavior.
Data details show precise purchase volumes between 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM. "SHVA systems recorded expenses totaling 459.06 million shekels on Friday, September 11, 2026," the company stated in its official announcement.
By comparison, expenses on Erev Rosh Hashanah 5786, which fell on a Monday last year, stood at a total of 446.77 million shekels during those same hours. Two years ago, on Erev Rosh Hashanah 5785 in October, expenses during those hours reached only 422.93 million shekels.
The data points to a consistent and clear growth trend even compared to the pre-war period. On Erev Rosh Hashanah 5784 in 2023, prior to the outbreak of the Iron Swords war, morning expenses stood at 378.39 million shekels.
Finally, the company shared an exceptional statistic regarding point-of-sale traffic at various businesses. "The peak spending minute this morning was at 10:56 AM, with an amount exceeding 3.44 million shekels and over 18,000 transactions per minute," SHVA reported.
