A fatal explosion at the Mitzpe Pe'er site on the Ramim Ridge resulted in the death of a 14-year-old boy and left 24 other people injured, including students and teachers from the ORT Ma'alot Yeshiva junior high school. Three of the wounded are in serious condition, ten are moderate, and the rest sustained light injuries.

Warning Signs and Unauthorized Entry

Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael (KKL) stated that warning signs prohibiting entry had been posted across the area since May due to unexploded ordnance and rehabilitation work following hostilities. However, the group of students accessed the site through an alternative entrance where no warning sign was present.

'We started to evacuate them upward, opening the route. The route suddenly became congested with the army, but we evacuated everyone,' said Tamir Duadi, a local resident and first responder.

IDF Investigation Findings

An initial investigation by the IDF indicates that the item which detonated was an unexploded cluster munition fired by Hezbollah during the conflict. Initial suspicions suggest one of the students picked up the item and placed it inside a backpack before the blast occurred.
