Rami Levy, Carrefour or Shufersal: Which chain is the most expensive for holiday shopping
A special price check on popular fish varieties ahead of the holidays reveals differences of tens of shekels per kilogram between major retail chains. Where is it most cost-effective to shop?
Ahead of the holiday season and the rising demand for traditional festive foods, a positive trend has emerged for consumers with a decrease in fish prices across major retail chains. A study conducted by the "Gilboa Index" program with Niv Gilboa on the i24News channel revealed significant price gaps for popular fish varieties between different retailers.
In the fresh sea bream fillet segment, the most expensive chain tested was Tiv Taam, where a kilogram costs 159.90 shekels. In contrast, the Carrefour chain offers the product at 149.90 shekels per kilogram, while the most affordable chain in this category is Rami Levy, selling the fish for just 128.90 shekels per kilogram.
Notable differences were also recorded in the prices of fresh sea bass fillet. The Carrefour chain tops the list as the most expensive, with a price of 159.90 shekels per kilogram. The Machsanei HaShuk chain sits in the middle, offering a kilogram of sea bass fillet for 149.90 shekels. The cheapest chain tested for this fish is Shufersal Deal, where you will pay only 139 shekels per kilogram.
These significant price gaps highlight the importance of comparing costs before concentrated holiday shopping, as choosing a more affordable chain can save tens of shekels on the family shopping basket.
