Rafael Advanced Defense Systems is integrating its SPICE 1000 precision-guided munition into the F-35 fighter jet for the first time. The project is being carried out in cooperation with Lockheed Martin at the company's facilities in the United States and is expected to be completed within a few months. Once finalized, the munition will be available for use on F-35 aircraft operated by the Israeli Air Force.

The integration could open up opportunities for other nations operating F-35 jets to acquire the Israeli-made armament, which has already been sold to several countries and is in operational use by multiple air forces worldwide. The SPICE 1000 is an autonomous air-to-surface weapon designed to strike stationary and strategic targets at ranges exceeding 120 kilometers, utilizing an electro-optical seeker and image-matching algorithms for navigation.

The munition has been in service with the Israeli Air Force for several years. According to Rafael, it has seen extensive use during air force operations in Iran, where it was deployed from F-15 and F-16 aircraft. The SPICE 1000 is part of Rafael's SPICE family of autonomous precision-guided weapons available in three different weight classes.
