A serious indictment was recently filed against a 71-year-old resident of Ashkelon, who works as a taxi driver, following a complaint of an indecent act during a ride. According to the indictment filed by Adv. Rachel Almakies from the Southern District Attorney's Office, the incident occurred during the night in September 2024.

The young woman initially sat in the back seat with her mother, but was left alone in the vehicle after her mother got out of the taxi. After the mother exited the vehicle, the driver suggested that the passenger move to sit next to him in the front seat, and she agreed. According to the indictment, while the complainant was looking at her phone, the driver reached out and touched her inner thigh near her genitals over her clothes. The complainant immediately moved his hand away and said "no" to him, but the defendant did not let go, tried to touch her again, and patted her thigh.

At this stage, as detailed in the indictment, the driver approached her with an offensive offer:

"Do you want me to take you to a hotel in Eilat and spoil you and give you something to drink?"

Later, when they arrived at her destination and before she got out of the taxi, the driver tried to hide the act and said to her: "Let it stay between us," while expressing hope that she would not tell anyone about what happened.

Following the prompt complaint filed by the passenger with the police, the 71-year-old driver is now facing criminal proceedings for committing an indecent act. It remains to be seen how the court will rule in this case.
