IRGC Quds Force Renames Secret Unit 840 to Unit 600 Amid Leadership Crisis
The IRGC Quds Force has reportedly overhauled its secret overseas operations unit, renaming Unit 840 to Unit 600 and appointing a new commander following severe leadership losses.
Iran International reported that Esmail Qaani, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force, appointed a new commander for its secret overseas operations unit and changed its designation from Unit 840 to Unit 600. The unit is responsible for assassination plots and terrorist attacks outside Iran.
According to the report, the unit's previous commander, Yazdan Mir, was killed in an Israeli strike in April. The newly appointed commander is 64-year-old Haq Lisan, who previously served as the unit's intelligence chief. Sources indicated that relying on former senior officials reflects a leadership crisis following a chain of targeted eliminations in Iran.
Iran International cited sources close to the Quds Force stating that following the exposure of Unit 840's structure and command chain, it was decided to rename the unit. Sources added that Mohammad Reza Ansari currently serves as deputy commander of the unit and head of the Israel file.
The report also noted that Mohsen Boroujerdi heads the branch responsible for terrorist activity in the US and Europe, while Morteza Babai oversees the branch for the Middle East and Africa. Javad Sherfai is responsible for activities in Asia, alongside Mitham Sahrai handling India and Africa.
