Portland Releases Jeremy Sochan Just Ahead of NBA Season Opener
Portland released forward Jeremy Sochan just before the NBA season opener, leaving Deni Avdija and the team with an open roster spot.

Portland Makes Late Roster Move
Portland made a sudden roster change right before the start of the NBA season by releasing Jeremy Sochan. The 23-year-old forward, selected ninth overall in the 2022 NBA draft by the San Antonio Spurs, joined the team in early August on a one-year deal but failed to secure his spot.
The decision came after he participated in all four preseason games for Portland, averaging 6 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 12.3 minutes per game. Despite shooting efficiently, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, it wasn't enough to convince the coaching staff.
A Career of Rapid Changes
For Sochan, this marks another stop in a turbulent year. After playing three and a half seasons in San Antonio, he was waived in February and joined the New York Knicks, winning an NBA championship ring.
"We evaluated all options carefully before finalizing the roster for the upcoming campaign," team management noted regarding the sudden cut.
Following his release, Portland and Deni Avdija remain with 17 players on the roster, leaving one open spot available ahead of opening night.
